– ABOUT ME –

hey, this is me. my friends call me rach.

Most days you'll find me in leggings and a hoodie, no makeup and a messy bun. Some days I feel like I can conquer the world and accomplish anything, and other days I cuddle up with the kids on the bean bag and watch cartoons.

I'm married to my best friend and we just celebrated our 10 year anniversary (fist bump emoji). We have four crazy awesome kids - three girls and one boy. My kids are crazy. They don't get that from me.

i'm rachael and i like naps.

i'm also a cotton candy, french fry, dr pepper lover who cries in disney movies and thinks that many of lifes problems can be solved with a good hug.

My kids have been the reason and inspiration I began capturing life through a lens. I wanted to capture all the little memories so that one day when they aren't making messes or fighting with each other, I can remember all the good times. And lets be honest, kids are hilarious. They push me in so many ways as a mother and a photographer. And I want to capture ALL OF IT.

I began my journey taking pictures of my kids and if I'm honest, taking pictures of children is still my favorite shoot. Give me a family full of toddlers and young kids and I'll leave exhausted, happy, and filled up.

In the summer of 2016 I took a leap and signed up for a macro photography class. What a challenge! Two things I never expected: the steep learning curve, and the therapeutic joy I would from taking pictures of such tiny things. I am learning to find the beauty everywhere - whether it's a dandelion or a three year old with a dirty face.

My photography style is pretty raw. I want to capture real life.  I want to capture the giggles AND the tears. I want to capture our best selves and our not so best selves. But after saying that, I understand the value of capturing the happy beautiful life.  I feel every woman needs a picture of themselves that makes them feel beautiful. You know, the one that you look at when you're feeling down and say, "oh yeah, I am beautiful, I do have something to offer."

WHY DO I DO IT?

I know it might sound funny, but I started photography because I was scared of my kids growing up. Not scared like I didn't want them to grow up, because if I'm honest, being a mom of young kids is HARD.  But I have this fear that I will forget.  I want to be able to sit on my rocking chair when my kids have all left the house and see all these beautiful memories.  Pictures help you remember. Take this photo of "my world" at the bottom of this page. I remember this scene so well. I remember all the feelings I had. I remember taking this picture and having my heart feel like it was going to burst. Not just out of love and gratitude but also out of the extreme bone deep fatigue that you feel when your baby is a few days old and you have toddlers at home.  I remember my mother in law standing behind me, trying to get my kids to look and smile. I remember the time she took off work to take care of us. I remember all the good family and friends that I had (and have) backing me up - behind me every step of the way.  I don't want to forget THAT.  THAT is the power of a picture.  THAT is what I want to remember. THAT is why I started photography.
